I agree that at first, using the template is time-consuming. I'm thinking that as you work with it more, it becomes more fluid.
I was very impressed that you had not only state standards, but national standards as well. Though, and I'm reminded of this by my own supervisor, I wonder if you would really be able to cover all those standards in one lesson? I also thought your questions were appropriate (and funny -- "flight just happens!"). As far as assessment, I think it's important that students are assessed in individual and group work as you do -- I use the same method of students keeping a record in a sketchbook-journal (and then you have incorporated a writing component too!).
